9 Days Down. 90 To Go. 10% Through.

Lesson Learned: When rest is deserved, by all means, rest.

Starting to strike a balance between activities that I have never achieved before. Yes, I know, I’m only 9 days into this crossing and I’m already claiming to have reached enlightenment. No, not really, but I do feel great about my progress and the manner in which I’m approaching everything that needs to be done.

In the past, it was was common for me to pick out a few activities that I wished to pursue and immediately start planning a day by day breakdown of how and when I was going to accomplish my activity hopefuls. A sample run-down of how my mind operated was something like this, “Okay, I’ll wake up at 5:30, get to yoga by 6, after yoga I’ll work on studying the stock market for an hour while I eat breakfast. I’ll be at work by 8:30 and get out by 4:00. I’ll go to dance at 4:30 and return home to practice Spanish from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and if anything changes throughout my day, welp, I’m fu*ked.”  Pretty bizarre, I would make my days so structured and rigid that any pop-up event (a common occurrence in this thing we call life), would send my productivity train careening off the tracks.

Now its different. I wake up at 5:30 and have the option of going to 6:00 a.m. yoga, working on dance practice for 30 minutes and singing for another 30 or even getting in my weight workout. Point being, I have options and I’m more than willing to work with those options. Instead of breaking my productivity meter down day by day and obsessing over every single second, I’m taking a step back and gauging the meter over the course of an entire week. Sure, I had plenty of time to go to yoga this morning, and I planned on going the night before. But when I woke up, I felt like dancing. So I danced with the understanding that I had time throughout the rest of the day to make it to a yoga class, and I did. If I didn’t have time today, then I would for sure have time somewhere else in the week. As long as I reach my goal in each activity every week, then I’m happy.

Lesson Learned: One of the most difficult things in life is developing good habits.

Heard a song on the radio today and the lyrics went “You’ve got to bury that seed in the dirt if you want it to grow” and I thought about it for a long moment. I think that its important the song writer mentioned having to bury the seed in dirt. He wanted to imply that if you want positive change, you have to be isolated from everything around you and focus on what it is you want most in life.

Lesson Learned: Doing something for someone else brings balance to a busy life. All too often, I am consumed with what I have to plan, start and finish that I forget there are 7 billion other people on the planet. Being selfless, even in the smallest way pays big dividends in the end.

Okay, I slacked a little bit. I missed 2 days of entries and I haven’t even gotten through the first week. That’ s not to say that I didn’t accomplish anything during the past two days, I just didn’t document it. I’m finally back home after a week of house-sitting followed by being snowed in at work for a night. Glad to be home, not so glad about the mess I returned to.

A few things I have noticed so far after the first week. I am being too vague with my goals. I want to improve in a variety of tasks  but I don’t have any measurable ways of testing my improvement. I need directions, I need to know where I am going before I assert this effort and end up spinning my tires. So let me do this real quick….

Dance-Attend at least 2 classes each week.  Practice for 3 hours outside of class each week. Video tape myself now and at the end of the 90 days to see improvement. I’ll come up with movements I want to work on each week. This week it is the Harlem Shuffle, Robot leg walk,  Finger Waves, Control Waves that can go through my whole body and Chest Isolations.

Singing-Attend my singing lesson each week. Practice for 3 hours outside of class each week. Record myself now and at the end of the 90 days to see my improvement (if any). I’ll post singing exercises and songs I would like to work on as I learn them from class. As of now, I would like to have ‘Let It Be’ down strong by the end of the 90 days.

Yoga-Attend 4 Yoga classes each week. Plain and simple. I’m hoping continuous practice will have me in shape for skiing season NEXT year. If anything, I would like work on some inversion poses.

Art-Attend all my Art classes and put forth a committed effort each project. Don’t try to make a masterpiece right off the bat, I’m going to need to crawl for a while before I can walk. One day hopefully, I’ll be able to run. I would like to have at least 5 pieces that I can put in my portfolio by the end of the 90 days.

HTML- Attend all my Web Design courses and assemble some knowledge of HTML and CSS. This topic is fuzzy for me still, I’m still trying to find a measurable way of seeking improvement. I’ll have to update this one.

Money-Save $, Save $ and $ave Money. I’ll break this into chunks. Have $3700 saved by March 9. I want to be in my own place by my birthday. That’s June 25, 2012.

That’s it. This is an ever-changing idea. The only constant is change.

Lesson learned: Think big by starting small. It takes a lot of small steps forward to prepare for the large leap. Taking an overwhelming chunk and breaking it up into manageable pieces is crucial in order to persevere.

Today was a good day. I woke up at the crack of dawn and made it to work by 5:15. I didn’t have a razor at the house I’m looking after and was forced to use one from the hotel gift store, along with complimentary hotel shaving cream. The razor was prison grade, the shaving cream had the consistency of toothpaste and the water in the employee bathroom only runs cold. It was smooth sailing from there.

Tasks completed for today;

-Dance Class at The Be Life (1 1/4 hours)

-Team Treehouse Time (45 minutes)

-Finished Texture Art Piece (3 hours)

Work Hours for today- 9 1/2 hours
